G45 Bird Song Tray

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to share with you this 4th project of a series of 5, using Graphic45's Bird Song collection of papers. So far you've seen a cigar box turned into a lovely card box with custom sized cards and envelopes, a gorgeous fan mini album, and an organizer mini, which will all be housed on this project - a beautiful and sturdy Japanese inspired tray.

I used 6 sheets of black medium weight chipboard to construct this 19"W x 13"D x 3 3/4" H tray. All parts of this tray are layers of chipboard. The legs have two layers, the tray bases, sides and lip all have three layers, and one section has four layers! All this together makes it nice and sturdy, and the beautiful papers and gold gel pen make it a lovely tray.

Let's have a look at it from different angles, shall we.

Hopefully you can see the Japanese inspired legs I created for the tray. I also added an extra set of legs in the center of the tray just in case over time it would begin to sag a little.

Love the cupboard handles I found for the tray. Goes quite well with it and has almost a bamboo look to them.

Can you see the gold gel pen borders everywhere? Like the pattern I created in the lower left and upper right corners?

Here is a close up of the pattern. You can also see the striped pattern I created to cover the seam in the tray.

I'll have to get a photo with all of the previous projects displayed on the tray. So the last project will be coming soon, so watch for it. For those of you here in Victoria taking the class there is a list of things to bring at the very end of this post. Be warned, our hands will end up turning black during the construction of the tray.

Thank you so much for stopping by to have a look, with 11 days left until Christmas! Happy shopping, happy baking, happy last minute crafting, and Merry Christmas in case you don't get back to the blog before then.

This is what you'll need to bring to class:
-paper trimmer (make sure your blade is sharp)
-scissors
-ruler
-pencil & eraser
-gold gel pen
-black sharpie or marker
-black ink pad (Momento Tuxedo Black pad or Dew Drop, TH Soot, or any black die ink pad)
-quick dry glue (lots - I used more than one full bottle and ended up using Glossy Accents to finish, which works great)
-dbl sided adhesive
-scor tape - 1/8", 1/4" & 1/2"
-wet cloth - we will be needing to clean and wipe our hands often to keep skin oils off of the black chipboard as well as our hands getting black all over from ink, marker and the chipboard.
-Big Bite is the only hole punch tool that will work for this project. If you have one, please bring it. There will two there for use if you need it and it will only work for 2 to 4 people to use it.
